Caterpillar
Tucson Mining Center
When Caterpillar made the decision to build a global headquarters building for its mining team in Tucson, Arizona, we worked alongside the client and the building architect to create an environment that reflects the personality of the Caterpillar team — showcasing the work they do and the industry they serve. Every area of the new 150,000-square-foot Tucson Mining Center was considered an opportunity to inspire employees and provide a quality experience for visiting customers.
Exterior

The entrance to the building features a Heritage Walk: a series of 12 panels that provide a visual history of Caterpillar in the mining industry, which spans more than 100 years.

The globe garden introduces visitors to the mining industry. Its centerpiece is a custom-made large metal globe, with each continent made from representative minerals mined in that region. Bronze markers around the perimeter of the garden highlight iconic mine sites from around the world.
Lobby & Customer center

Customer visits are a key area of focus. The welcome lobby features a life-size photo of a large mining truck and a large card-activated interactive table that is filled with information on Cat products and technologies for mining. This area also includes a display of several die-cast mining machine models.

A total of 1,888 actual machine bolts are used to represent the global nature of the Caterpillar mining business in this unique map depiction.

This unique architectural feature provides an opportunity to showcase the Caterpillar partnership with the mining industry through time: past, present and future.
First Floor

Employee areas are conditioned with messages and murals that show real customer mine sites, while hallway art installations showcase the machines and technologies that are engineered in the building.

Each stairwell landing represents a different mineral mined in Arizona: copper, gold, silver, coal, iron ore and gemstones.
