Nearly 20 years ago, Caterpillar reached out to Converse to develop a magazine for the mining industry that would share the wealth of knowledge accumulated through the company’s access to mining operations around the world. The goal was to create a high-quality publication that would become recognized in the industry and stand the test of time — continuing through changes in leadership, shifting priorities and new communication channels.

We were tasked with concepting, planning, writing, designing and distributing this new publication, titled “Viewpoint: Perspectives on Modern Mining.”  The magazine offered in-depth coverage on a variety of mining topics, told from the point of view of mining companies, employees, equipment dealers, application experts, technology developers and more. This endeavor required an in-depth understanding of the industry, an ability to clearly communicate complex topics, and the trust of our client to work directly with its customers and dealers.

For nearly a decade, Viewpoint was printed and distributed to over 80 countries in multiple languages before successfully transitioning to a digital format.

At that time, we launched a custom-designed website that continued to be updated regularly, along with a search function that provided access to a full repository of 100+ articles. Nearly 10,000 mining industry professionals signed up to receive regular email communications letting them know when new articles were available on the site.

Today, Viewpoint content has been relocated to a corporate blog for which we continue to develop and write new articles.
