For the third year in a row, Converse helped Caterpillar turn its NASCAR sponsorship into an event for mining customers. The 2015 Quicken Loans Race for Heroes in Phoenix featured a mining-themed car, and the race was incorporated into the company’s New Product Days, where the focus was autonomous mining technology. We helped Caterpillar showcase autonomous dozing, with Cat NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and others operating a Cat D11T Dozer — located more than 100 miles away near Tucson — from a remote operator station at the Phoenix International Raceway. In addition to designing the remote trailer and supporting the customer program, one lucky member of the Converse team had a “hot pass” to get on the track, where he handled Caterpillar’s social media. The event drew coverage from ESPN, Fox Sports and USA Today among others.
